The Future of Avatar…

…is definitely not certain. For any number of reasons.

First and foremost, I think I might need a break, something I think I’ve mentioned before.

However, I noticed that yet another website has gone dark. One that, of course, dealt with porn. Now, I don’t know what the content of the site was. But the fact is, that the written word, when one writes about sex, is not covered under the First Amendment, if the writing is deemed to be obscene.

Now, I don’t consider Avatar obscene. But then, I don’t make the rules. This administration has made some grave errors, but this latest, all out war on sexual activity is actually frightening.

So, between those two things, the future of Avatar is certainly in doubt. If it does continue, however, expect much more social commentary in it.

About Dark Pen

I am Dark Pen. I write BDSM stories, almost always with plot and consider myself a Soldier in the battle against America's war on sex.

Well Avatar should have a commentary on this:
“President Bush said to all of us: ‘I’m driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, “George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan.” And I did, and then God would tell me, “George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq …” And I did. And now, again, I feel God’s words coming to me, “Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East.” And by God I’m gonna do it.'”
How about giving the Goddess a right of reply 😉

I’m afraid that the administration would not recognise either the Goddess Lea in Avatar or the Goddess I worship as a Pagan. As a Christain, he won’t even acknowledge that other God/ess exist. To closed minded people like him, we’re all devil worshippers.
By the way, I hope you saw my apology in the other thread…

      • dfile says:

Yes. Apology accepted. That topic was not about BDSM story writers, but self appointed experts who get off saying “I don’t need or want anyone’s submission”. They might as well say they don’t want sex.

If you want a break, or to use your time for some other purpose, obviously you are entitled to this and I will simply be grateful for what you have given us.
If, however, you are worried about persecution or censorship, I would urge you to continue publishing, possibly with more precautions. On a quick search, I was unable to discover your true name. I would gladly set up my computer as a non-deterministic, non-logging relay, and write code for others to do the same, so that your works cannot be traced to an IP. Every website forced down is a victory for the forces of fundamentalism, but every website that goes down without force is a bigger one. Your work is exactly the sort of thing that can be held up as an example of art with hardcore sex in it *and other worthwhile things*.

    Hi Dark Pen
It sounds to me like your president has gone mad, or perhaps he was from the beginning. But anyhow, my wife and I wold be very sorry to miss out on the rest of Avatar, just because of some stupid rules. My suggestion is that you post on a server out of the USA, perhaps here in Europe.
Looking forward to see what the future brings in NIS, and hopefully Avatar

It would be a huge shame for you to stop writing/posting Avatar because of some ridiculous “moral” enforcement. So if you can continue, without compromising your writing or putting yourself at risk, then please try. Do you know any lawyers that could give you free advise on where the line might be?
Is this both Avatar and :NIS ? I would have thought the most contentious area of your writing is the under-age involvement (although a common theme with net stories). What do you think is most likely to be an issue?

    • Dark Pen says:

I think that I will be continuing Avatar, eventually. I will finish posting all of the NIS parts as well, there are fifteen, in fact. One every two weeks, at least until the editor finishes his portion of the show :). Then I’ll try to go to once every week.

    Social commentary –
    – is a part of what we appreciate in Avatar. Keep doing what you do so fine.
